Every hour your website is down is an hour customers cannot find your opening times, browse your shop or fill in your enquiry form, and search engines take note of sites that go offline regularly. A reputable host publishes uptime figures for a reason, anything below 99.9% starts to add up to hours of lost visibility over a year. If your current host cannot tell you its uptime record without checking, that is worth treating as an answer in itself.
Where your data lives matters
Data protection rules across the UK, the EU and the Channel Islands increasingly expect businesses to know where customer information is actually stored and processed. Many hosts now let you choose a data centre location, and for a Guernsey business that usually means keeping data within the UK or EU rather than scattered across servers on another continent. It is a small detail that becomes important the moment a customer, or a regulator, asks the question.
Signs your current host is holding you back
- Your site takes more than two or three seconds to load, even on a good connection.

- Backups are irregular, untested, or you have never actually checked one restores correctly.
